“I don’t like to be touched during conversations. It’s not only an invasion of my bubble, but it feels like they are, for that brief moment, claiming ownership of my body. When I tell people not to touch me, and they do it anyway, I feel like it’s a deliberate assault, because not only is it a violation of my senses, but it is a violation of my wishes. “It physically HURTS me when someone taps me on the shoulder, brushes against my arm, etc. being physically hypersensitive and finding it painful, overwhelming, repulsive or distracting, or too personal and invasive. Some call it ‘tactile defensiveness’ – a fancy name for people who simply don’t want to be touched or hugged, and usually have very good reasons for it, e.g.
